Portal back end backup & recovery

Certain areas of the Xpand Portal back end can be backed up and restored. This may be useful when you want to quickly deploy a portal configuration on a new environment or if you want to restore configuration after making changes.

The following CMS areas can be backed up:

  • Members (portal members and member groups)
  • Content (setup pages and setting values)
  • Media (setup pages from this area)

For Content and Media, you can choose to export only specific nodes or export all nodes.

Merge options

Additionally, Xpand Portal allows merging and expanding configuration when you are restoring configuration from a backup file. Thus, you can choose how to merge imported data when restoring configuration in case the configuration structure does not fully coincide: you can choose to overwrite an existing back end page with a page from the backup file only in case its ID is the same, or its node name is the same, or both its ID and node name are the same as in the backup file.

  Note

If you want to restore your configuration without merging it with the existing configuration, you need to ensure that CMS areas where configuration can be restored are empty before trying to import configuration from a backup file.

Backup configurations

Prior to creating a backup, you create backup configurations, where you set up which CMS areas will be exported during a backup, how merging will be handled when you restore a backup, and specify other settings. Then, you can select a backup configuration to quickly create a backup or restore back end from a backup file.
